My name is Jordi Sánchez-Navarro and this blog is a kind of personal notebook I would like to use to organize my interests in research.
I have been trained in Journalism and Media Studies and, after that, I’ve specialized in film and video game studies. Nowadays, I am a lecturer at the Information and Communication Sciences Deparment at the Open University of Catalonia, where I coordinate and teach some subjects, together with doing some research and, when I have enough time, I analyse innovation in the educational practice.
After obtaining a degree in Journalism by the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona and taking doctorate courses at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, I wrote my doctoral thesis on film studies at the Universitat Ramon Llull. In my dissertation I tried to explore the concepts of authorship, crisis of the genres and cultural recycling in post-modern cinema. I have taught subjects on film and image theory at the Universitat Ramon Llull, and I have collaborated in various masters at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona and the School of Cinema and Audiovisuals of Catalonia (ESCAC).
Thanks to my friends and research colleagues I could become involved in the territories of sociology, anthropology and education; disciplines that have expanded my horizons and research interests. At present, these interests are: film theory, screen studies, current film practices in contemporary media landscape, video games, animation, youth subcultures, children and youth media education in leisure time and rethinking media.
Among other activities, I collaborate with the research groups SPIDER (Smarter People through Interactive Digital Entertainment Resources) and COMCAD (Audiovisual Communication and Digital Culture), and I coordinate the animation section of the International Film Festival of Catalonia (Sitges). I have taken part as Juror and member of the Scientific Committee in diverse academic symposiums and film festivals.
